Its summertime! There is nothing better than being out in the sun all day and just being outside. If you are anything like me and love to be out in the sun for hours on end, then you know how important sunscreen is. No one wants to get wrinkles at a younger age than they must, so make sure that you are putting on your sunscreen!
This post is mostly to all the ocean lovers out there who are always in the water. When you put on sunscreen and then go into the water, that sunscreen is coming off you in some way, shape or form. There is no way that all that sunscreen is soaked into your skin. So, when you are swimming in the ocean it is just not your body swimming in the ocean, it is also your sunscreen that you just put on. You do not have to be an ocean lover to support these brands that I am about to promote. If you just love being outside, hiking, swimming in a pool, or anything that involves being in the sun, then you can still support these brands because they are doing great things for our environment!
There are two main ingredients in most sunscreen that are harming/killing our oceans and reefs; those ingredients are oxybenzone and octinoxate. It is important when looking for sunscreen that these two chemicals are not in it, so peek in the ingredient list before you purchase. To make things a little bit easier for you, I will list a couple of sunscreens that are oxybenzone and octinoxate free:
Tropic Sport
Formula includes zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and other natural ingredients, rather than harsh active chemicals.

Think

Coola
Active ingredients are avobenzone, octisalate, and octocrylene.
I hope this helps you to decide on what sunscreen you would want to purchase next. Also, when looking for a sunscreen, more likely than not when it says “mineral sunscreen” that is also a natural sunscreen that is safe for the ocean. I know I did not name all the ingredients, chemicals, and benefits/harms of these sunscreens for your body, but these are guaranteed reef safe and safe for the ocean (the purpose of this post). I hope this made you a bit more conscious of what you put on your body is ultimately being released into nature (shampoo, body wash, lotion etc. That I will get into on another post). I hope you learned something new!
xx
