Give hugs! Twelve hugs a day is all it takes to make the world a little bit of a better place.
I am going to give one scientific health benefit about giving hugs, but I will talk about the most important reason (in my opinion) to give hugs in a little bit. When you give a hug, there is a hormone released called oxytocin which is related to happiness and lowers your stress levels. When this hormone rises, it creates happiness and less stress in our bodies. How amazing is that! I thought this discovery was special because it shows how a hug, just a simple hug, has such positive impact on the body. There are many more scientific health benefits about hugs, but I do not want to bore you too much, so if you are interested you can look it up. I will add some links below for you. <3
Now to the fun talk. People now a days live in their own little bubble. They do not like being touched, they have reduced social interaction and touching; which does not help the hugging situation at all. Try and burst out of your bubble and start showing some affection. We are human and we need other human touch to grow. When you give someone a hug, not only does it put a smile on your face, it puts a smile on the other persons face who you are hugging! Seeing that person smile should make you happy because that could have been the best part of their day. Think of a hug as a little gift (who does not like getting gifts? I know I sure do). It is fun to go in with a hug when you say hi to someone, whether you know them well or not. Do not be afraid to open your arms wide and give a hug. Hugs create smiles, smiles create happiness, and happiness creates a better world.
Try giving a few hugs a day (I know it is hard right now because of everything going on) but try to give as many hugs a day as possible. Just so you know, the goal is 12. If you feel uncomfortable that is good, but make sure you try because when you try this hugging lifestyle that means you are stepping out of your comfort zone and you are growing. Here are some ideas to start you off: give your parents, brothers, sisters and loved one’s hugs and see how it makes you feel! Next, try giving your friends hugs. Then people who you are just somewhat friendly with. Try to see how giving hugs affects you and others. If you are comfortable giving everyone you encounter a hug, then great! Keep doing it. It is also very important to respect each-others space, so if someone does not want your hug, do not take offence, and just understand that this hug idea is not for them. Also, make sure that you are in the right setting to hug; you should know whether the situation calls for a hug or maybe a handshake, that is on you to determine. Give out hugs and see how you grow and see how it makes the world a happier place.
